Finn sat talking to Jones for over half an hour. What he’d been told wouldn’t have taken Jones more than five minutes to relay, even allowing for Finn’s questions and insistence that Jones repeat the story twice. It boiled down to one fact: Sonny was giving away free samples of a new drug called Bang Bang.

No one knew exactly what it was because Sonny was playing it very close to his chest, but apparently he was recruiting franchisees throughout the prison, dividing North and West Yorkshire into blocks, guaranteeing exclusivity for six months, an arrangement that could be extended later by mutual agreement.

The wholesale price was agreed upon and fixed for a period, and a suggested retail price given, along with ideas about branding, distribution, and protection. All for an extra fee, of course.

Jones had eventually left, hacking and coughing.

He was, Finn thought, possibly the most unpleasant physical specimen he’d seen in a long time. In addition to his teeth, stoop, and hacking cough, Jones had an especially unpleasant whining voice, widespread weeping dermatitis, and Hepatitis B. It was a wonder that anyone would even talk to him.

Thank God for soft hands and even softer lips, thought Finn, stifling a smile.
